The Dhaka Metro Rail is a planned metro system for Dhaka city. It is a modern, efficient, and reliable mass transit option.

Dhaka is one of the most populous in the world. It is a mega city. Dhaka faces a significant transporting problem every day.

In that case from 28 December 2022 the metro rail is started.  Six metro trains are running initially from Agargao to Diyabari.

Dhaka Metro Rail History

To implement Dhaka’s 20-year-long Strategic Transport Plan, the Government Of Bangladesh invited Japan International Cooperation Agency to conduct a primary survey and possibility study on the transport system of Dhaka in 2009-2010.

In 2012, the executive committee of the National Economic Council approved the project.

A loan agreement between the Government of Bangladesh and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency was signed in January 2013.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTC) is the agency responsible for the implementation of the first metro line which one formed in January 2012.

The General Consultant whose name is  NKDM Association commenced work beginning in February 2014.

In June 2012, DMTC Limited was established by the Government to implement the Metro Rail across the city.

From July 2023 there are 6 metro trains and 2 lines have been running.

Metro Rail Station List

Nine trains are running from Agargaon to Diyabari. Current running metro rail stations are given below,

• Kazipra
• Shewrapara
• Mirpur 10
• Mirpur 11
• Pallabi
• Uttara South
• Uttara Centre
• Uttara North

These Metro trains are at MRT Line 6. There are several lines such as MRT 1 and MRT 5. Many of the stations are under construction.

After completing the whole project the design of the present Dhaka will be changed.

Metro Line Route

There are five lines have been planned for Dhaka Metro Mass Rapid Transit or MRT system. 

At present MRT 6 lines have been running. It was started as an experiment in December 2022.

MRT Line-6 is a 20 km-long line extending from Uttara in the north to Motijheel in the south.

The line has now 9 stations that are running, But others are under construction. The lines run parallel to the Turag River on the west side of Dhaka. 

In 2023, Agargaon to Diyabari runs the metro rail. The travel time from north to south Dhaka will be approximately 35 minutes.

MRT1 Line will be 30.6 km long. It has an 18.8 km underground section. It will cover 19 stations.

This line is totally under construction. It covers the Airport to Purbachal.

The MRT5 line will connect with Mirpur.

The present time of Dhaka Metro Rail is published on 25 July 2023. The schedule is,

Traveling Time: Every 10 minutes from 08:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Single Journey Ticket Purchase Time: 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM

MRT Pass Purchase Time: 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM & 03:00 PM to 09:00 PM

MRT Pass Registration Process: Visit www.dmtcl.gov.bd

Weekly Off Day: Tuesday
